It’s Aliiiiive!

Holy cow, I can’t believe the day is finally here! It seems like my whole life I have been muttering over and over, “I’d sure like to try to make video games someday.”  If I’m totally honest, as long as I’ve been using computers, I’ve wondered how the heck you could tie them directly into the brain or body.

No, no, nothing invasive. Picture a wearable headband or ugly hat with sensors.

With the launch of Encephalon Games, I finally have the outlet to do both of those things. I honestly have no idea how long this will take. However, if you’re reading this, hopefully you also have an interest in video games, neuro-technology research, or both!

There have been some amazing advances in the field of non-invasive Brain-Computer Interface (or BCI) technology recently. While I love making video games, I’d really like to find a way to develop alternative ways of controlling computers. Whether a person doesn’t have full control of their hands or just wants to feel like a Jedi, there is some really cool stuff out there! If you’re interested, I’d like to show you what I’ve found so far. I really hope you think it is as cool and exciting as I do!

Thank you very much for taking the time out of your day (or night, as the case may be) to come and check out what we’re doing over here!

Thank you, Twila! Wait until you see what the first headset can do, it’s unbelievable (I’m emailing out a video of it with the first newsletter this weekend!)

Thanks, Dave, miss you too! You guys are the best (and not just because you say nice things on this site!)

Me too, and now that my hair is growing back you can barely see the scorch marks from the electrodes at all (JUST KIDDING)!

You are definitely a gorgeous genius!

I hope you still feel the same after you’ve seen the first demo. If you go back and change your comment to, “He sure tries hard”, I won’t be offended 🙂

Stefan, you’ve always been incredibly supportive of my video game aspirations. Thank you very much for listening to me talk about this for so many years!

This is the simplest that the website or first game will ever be, not to mention I’ve barely scratched the surface of what some of this biosensing gear can do. I’m really looking forward to what the next couple of weeks will bring!

I might ask to borrow your brain (or at least parts of it) if you’re open to the idea! The headset I’ll be showing next week measures more points, but is really open to background noise. Jim is able to help make active electrodes that cut the problem down, but there is also another type of electrode altogether. It does require a conductive paste which smells sort of … grandmotherly. It’s not bad, it just smells a bit like grandmas, which is actually kind of soothing.

      You’ll see what I mean (that’s not a threatening tone … muhahaha).
